OPPO teases affordable smartphone with fingerprint on display in India and specifications

OPPO has long been a dominant player in the offline segment of the Indian smartphone market. Now it seems that brand is also gearing up to expand its network in the online domain as well. Flipkart has recently put up a new teaser page announcing the launch of a brand new series from the Chinese brand. However, the teaser page doesn’t reveal much about the upcoming smartphone or series.

According to the teaser, OPPO will soon launch a new smartphone that will offer ‘latest tech at an incredible price’. One of the technologies showcased on the page is the in-display fingerprint sensor. Notably, OPPO has already used this tech on a number of smartphones before, such as the R17 Pro. However, unlike the R17 Pro, the new series from the brand is expected to be more pocket-friendly since it mentions an “unbelievable price.” The teaser image also hints at gradient colour option for the smartphone as the rear casing’s colour changes from the sides to the bottom.

While the teaser doesn’t reveal any key details, from the look at the bottom half, the smartphone seems to be the OPPO K1 in Van Gogh Blue finish. To recall, the OPPO K1 was launched in China back in October 2018 and is touted to be the most affordable smartphone with under-display fingerprint scanner. The phone ships with a 6.4-inch full HD+ display with 91 percent screen-to-body ratio and boots ColorOS 5.2 custom software based on Android 8.1 Oreo. It is powered by the Snapdragon 660 AIE processor and is offered in China in two configurations, 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM + 128GB storage.
On the rear, the phone sports a 16-megapixel primary camera with f/1.7 aperture mated to a 2-megapixel depth sensor. As for selfies and video calling you get a 25-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. The smartphone is being offered in two hues – in Van Gogh Blue and Mocha Red colour options, both in gradient finishes. As for the prices, OPPO K1 retails at RMB 1,599 (about Rs 16,300) for the base 4GB RAM and 64GB storage option, and RMB 1,799 (roughly Rs 18,400) for the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant.
